I purchased the SMEG gas electrical 90cm oven a year ago. It was kept in secure storage until July this year. When we started using it the oven picked up excessive damage from normal daily use. Upon contacting SMEG they came out and reported that it was wear and tear and to the cost of the owner.
I enquired at Hirsch homestore on the problem and they pointed out to me that the new range had stronger handles that would not bend from normal usage and they supplied a product that can be applied to prevent any scratches on the cooking top from normal use of pots and cleaning.
I again enquired from SMEG if they could fix this and was told to buy a new handle and cooking top if I had a problem. These items are ordered from Italy and will arrive in an indefinite amount of time.
SMEG delivers substandard products at an inlated price and when thungs don't work out it becomes the consumer's problem.
I would rather buy German or Korean backed products in future and not waste my time with SMEG. (Ps: I have spent R50000 on SMEG products in the last year and some of my friends too who also had many issues with the products)
