Pick 'n Pay
Bait marketing

Shops, Products, Services

During the past week there was an advert on TV that Pick n Pay will have Half Lamb pack available for R47 per kg. The offer is available from 24-27 October 2013. We drove 50 km in total to get to our nearest Pick 'n pay today. When we got to the shop it was advertised on pamphlets that there is lamb. We went to the butchery just to be disappointed that there isn't stock. I went to the Manager. He told me they are waiting for stock to come from Cape gate. I asked him if he can write me a rain check so that I can fetched the meat during the week when I go into town. He didn't want to do that. Then I phoned customer care. They called back and said the branch manager was advised not to write out rain checks because there isn't stock. No where on the pamphlets are any indications that the offer is subject to availability. Under the consumers act Part E - Right to fair and responsible marketing: Bait marketing: A supplier must not advertise any goods or services as being available at a specific price, when they are not available, or are not available at the price. I was willing to take the rain check. I have the voice mail and pamphlets as evidence.
