Why have Camera's!

Went to Pick n Pay Clothing Outlet in the Cresta Shopping Centre and was pick pocketed. I lost my wallet with all my cards, drivers licence and a substantial amount of cash.
When enquiring about camera's I was led into the back room and was able to view the footage of being robbed, but when I asked about obtaining a copy for a police report, I was informed that this was not possible... My question is.. what is the point of having them then? Your shopping experience is supposed to be a comfortable one and you have a false sense of security when there is all this hi-tech camera equipment. I personally will never shop there again as a result, and am sure this is a common occurrence and the stores will just say that they cannot be held responsible for your belongings, etc etc..
