Exchange of a guess jeans

My husband was given a guess jeans for his birthday, the gift was a bought at Eastgate, its was never worn and still has the price tag on and today I went to go and exchange it, the branch manager told me he can't and I shld get the receipt it was a gift and the person don't have it. I can't not belief that u can see the jeans was never worn and the tag is tag is fully intact. I am so disappointed and I willl not buy anything from guess again. Its an R 800 jeans, Now what do I do.
