Colgate Palmolive
Toothpaste burned my gums

Shops, Products, Services

I submitted the following complaint via the Colgate website on August 6th 2013, and have not had a response: I purchased a tube of Colgate Optic White toothpaste fron Clicks Village View on 29 July. I usually use Colgate Advanced White toothpaste. After 2 days of using Optic White morning and night, I felt intense discomfort in my gums, with the skin having blistered and gone raw on the gums behind my bottom molars. With no change in my brushing routine, other than the change to Optic White, I can only conclude that this toothpaste was the cause. After the third day of extremely sore gums, I switched back to Colgate Advanced White, and after another 2/3 days, my gums are back to normal. I did not use more than a pea sized amount of the product, just enough to form a comfortable foam while brushing, and rinsed my mouth thoroughly as I usually do. I am very disappointed with the product, and will definitely not be using it again. I can only assume that it is safe to use, considering it is still available in the shops, but based on my experience, I will definitely not be recommending the use of this product to anyone that I know.
