No refund after wrong spesification information

I bought a Maxed Mamba cricket bat from the store for my 9 year old son. We specifically asked the staff member in the section if the bat could be used with a normal hard cricket ball, to witch they confirmed that a hard ball can be used. The following day the bat broke after hitting only 3 . I attempted to return the bat on the Monday, but after phoning his boss the manager refused to return the bat, stating that the bat was not made for hard cricket. I explained to him that I only bought the bat because of the advice given to me by his staff. The manager then wanted me to point out the staff member, but when I was unable to do that he replayed that he will not refund me. Due to this incident I will no longer make use of any of the Mr. Price outlets.
