Unhelpful about unloaded gift card

Towards the end of last year I attended an event where I received a Reggies gift card. The card has a sticker on saying R270. Yesterday I went to Reggies Norwood to redeem the card and was told it had a zero balance. I told them I had never used the card and the manager (I assume) very reluctantly went to make a call to find out what activity had been on the card. He came back (after I waited nearly 10 minutes) and told me the card was never loaded. So I asked if they could load the card with the amount that was supposed to be on it (assuming that one is able to buy gift cards at their store) so that I could use it. I was told they couldn't do that and that I would have to follow up myself by calling head office as there was nothing they could do. They didn't offer to help, and basically acted like they couldn't be bothered. There attitude was disgusting. Completely unhelpful, just short of being downright rude. The card is very clearly a Reggies gift card, stating a given amount. It's a pity that Reggies staff would rather lose a sale than try to help!!
