Game not adhering to the contract

I bought a Sony sound system at Game on the 27 April 2012 but they did not have stock so i paid for it and had to wait for them to have stock. I only received my sound system after two weeks and it has a 1 year guarantee. Now on the 1 May 2013 the mainswitch tripped while the system was on and after i restored power from the mainswitch when i switch on the system the sub-hoovers were no longer working, so i took the speakers to Game and i told them that because on the 27 April they didnt have stock it means im still within the guarantee period because i only received the system after two weeks. Now Game says the Guarantee period began on the 27 April and i ask them how could it start on that day because the goods that i purchased were not in my possession on that day. What i would like to know is that doesnt tranfer of anything happens when the other party is in possession of the good in question? Another thing no one from Game explained to me that guarantee period will start on the date that appears on the receipt even though the goods were not in my possession.
