Expired sausages with no apology

I chose to do my monthly grocery shop at Spar Rosmead avenue on Monday 29 - 4 - 2013
I did my groceries, and found most of the things I needed.
Not finding chicken Vienna Sausages i went with regular Viennas.
I got home, unpacked my groceries, and everything was fine. On Tuesday when I wanted to eat the sausages, i noticed that the expiry date on the packaging was the 20th of April. Having bought these the day before (the 29th of April) I was pretty shocked.
I immediately called them to tell them what had happened. There was absolutely no apology from the lady on the other side of the phone. Kind of looking for a bit of an apology I pushed on a little and asked if she thought it unnecessary to check all my other meat. I was met with a bit of laughter in her voice and the response, well if you want to. I then went in to the store yesterday to return them. When someone eventually came to the counter, i briefly explained the situation. Once again not even a hint of an apology was offered. I was simply told, well then go chose another pack from the back. When i returned to the counter, there was no one to be found and so I promptly left without any sort of exchange process.
