Out of country for 4 years - still billed 4 licenc

We left for Canada in January 2008 and I sent a letter by fax to SABC informing them of this. On December 16, 2010 I received an email from their legal team informing me that I'm in arrears. It was quite a large amount as interest had been added repeatedly. After attempting to correspond with them in order to settle this matter for seven months (it was like sending mail to father Christmas - he doesn't exist okay) on August 9, 2011 I resorted to post a complaint on this website. I got a response! I was asked to send proof of identification and the fact that I'm not in the country, which I did. I attempted to find out what the end result was, but Christmas came and went.

I never heard from them again until now. Now apparently I've been charged monthly - not annually which is cheaper - licensing fees for 2012 and this portion of 2013 while still not in the country. Because Hello Peter got me better results last time, I decided after one failed attempt to communicate with them, that I will post a complaint here again.

If I can give any good advice to citizens of South Africa - don't ever buy a TV licence. Just make a plan, buy your set off a friend or something like that.
