SARS
Tax refund delayed due to extremely long audit!

Politics & Government

I submitted my tax return early last year, I think it was early in October, and I still have not received my refund. The previous year I was penalised about R2000 for not submitting two or three years prior, but this was an error on SARS's side. My tax consultant agreed to correct it with my return last year, but now it has been four months and the audit is still not finalised. No explanations about the reason for the delay, all I hear is that it has not been finalised. A few days into the new year I got excited because my tax consultant informed me that the money should be in my account by the following day, but then the case apparently went back into audit??? I do not understand the delay as they have all the information they need and it was submitted speedily. This is ridiculous! The first time I submit long before the deadline and still do not have my money well into the new year. Other years I have submitted just before the deadline and received my money within a few weeks, not even a month later. What is the point of submitting way in advance then? I'm just an individual tax payer who gets a travel allowance. How complicated are such cases?
