I got divorced three years ago and was awarded half of my ex-husband's pension as part of my settlement. To my dismay, I found out that I had to wait untill he either dies or resigns before I could get the money, as he is a member of the SANDF. Last year, however, it changed and I sent all the relevant documentation to GEPF by registered mail on 14 November 2012.
Since then, I had to resend most of the documents as they simply were not in my file and I did not get any explanation or apology regarding this. It is almost eight months later and still nothing. This is my money, I am not asking any favours. It is like walking into a brick wall and extremely frustrating. I want to invest the money and it feels as if the government is actually what is mine by court order. I even sent a mail to their legal department, but no response so far. I don't even know how much I am supposed to get.
I am so sick of phoning and talking to a rude person who doesn't care about my concerns and just tells me which documents are missing this time. Way to go SA.By the way, as a law-abiding citizen, my tax return has already been submitted... Stupid me!
