Early termination of subscription

I requested that my digital Media 24 Magazine bundle subscription be cancelled WITH EFFECT FROM 1 SEPTEMBER early in August, after my monthly subscription fee had already been debited to my account. However, my subscription was terminated immediately and despite an email to Media 24 requesting a reason why my subscription was cancelled immediately despite 1) my request for cancellation from 1 September 2013 only and 2) me being billed for the month of August (which surely still entitled me to the enjoyment of the subscription for the month of August), I still haven't had a response from the company.
Surely this is not the way to conduct business? I find this disappointing.
