My son sent a parcel which arrived in South Africa on the 20th November 2013. The address was typewritten on a label on the front of the parcel, correct address, correct postal code and very clear. On the 20th December he got notification in UK that the Post office had tried to deliver the parcel but the recipient had not collected it so it would soon be returned to sender. I used the reference number he had been given to track it on SAPO track and trace website, only to find that it was sitting in Edenvale. I phoned that branch and eventually got through to the Branch Manager, Ms Olivier who informed me that yes, it was there, and had been sitting there for a month and she could not tell me why, when the postal code and address were correct. She offered no apology, just said it wasnt her fault but that someone at the back had obviously not noticed the postal code and forwarded it to the correct area. I had to drive from Pretoria to Edenvale to go and collect it and again, no apology from the staff there, just a shrug of the shoulders and a demand for the R18 in customs duties! What guarantee do we have of correct delivery, even when we use the correct postal codes etc..?!
