Two months ago I paid a R1000 deposit for a simple table to be made to my specifications, within 3 weeks. After a month, and 3 promises of delivery that never happened, a table was delivered. Not only did it not meet my specifications at all, but it is also very badly made (the legs are crooked, holes in the wood have not been filled, the paintwork is substandard with a clear shoe print on the top). After I pointed this all out to Arthur, the owner, he said he would make me another table. To date, there has been no sign of the table or even when it will be ready, despite my numerous phonecalls. I have asked for my deposit to be returned three times. Last Friday, in front of witnesses, Arthur told me I could get back my deposit today, but when I went there today he both refused to return my deposit or produce the table. Arthur has consistently avoided giving me a straight, truthful answer. He claims, in spite of hard evidence to the contrary (all one has to do is measure the table), that he made it to specifications.
