Bad Gel Overlays & Botched Repai

16/05/2013: Went for a gel overlay at DNB Canal Walk. While my manicurist, Esther, was friendly, she indicated that she hadn't done gel overlays in some time and failed to enquire which colour I would like (I received a French - not what I had planned). She filed off the edges of the gel, breaking the seal, but as she was the expert I decided to leave it at that. The treatment cost R290 plus a R40 tip, totalling R330.
By 19/05 the edges of two nails had begun to lift and chip, and small bubbles showed in the gel on each fingernail. Called DNB on 20/05, having checked that the overlay was to last min. 2 weeks; DNB promised a fix.
21/05: I was told by Esther that my nails are too short, thus the overlay is bound to lift - something I would have preferred to know prior to spending R330 on 4 days worth of decent nails. My nails were filed down to fit the chips, rather than the overlay being corrected, and a thick, uncomfortable layer of clear gel painted over the original gel. The edges remain ragged and there are thick ridges of gel on the skin beside the nail.
In summary: expensive, time consuming, poor service and chipped, thick and uncomfortable overlays. I shall not return.
