Refusing to close a paid up account

My mother opened an account with Donna Claire. She got retrenched from work in 2011 because of old age and sickness. We contacted Donna Claire, and explained the situation. Faxed and emailed a letter from her employer and affidavid from the police station to say she is unemployed and couldn't pay the account. They flat out refused to accept anything and wanted payment or have her thrown in jail. She was so scared that i had to take out a loan to pay them. Now we are finally finished with this account, and requested a statement from them, which they refuse to give because apparently there are some legal fees of about R3000 still to be paid. No-one ever said anything about paying attorneys, i made direct deposits into Donna Claires bank account for 9months and never got a phone call to say we have to pay the attorneys. Now some-one from HTN attorneys keeps smsing my mom and asking for the payment of R3000. She is a pensioner for crying out loud. How do they expect her to live on a R1200 and pay this exorbant amount. I got cut-off today and no-one called back. They are refusing to clear this amount.
