Health & Medicine

On the 14th of November 2012 my new premature (33 weeks) twin boys was born. Twin 1 weighed 2.00kg's and Twin 2, 1.66kg's. They spent 1 month in the ICU. The Paediatrician advised us to get the Twins a certain medication that will help to boost their immune systems and to protect their lungs against the Synerges Virus (RS Virus). This virus is very common with premature babies and can die from this virus. I submitted the doctors motivations and 2 weeks later I was informed that the application was rejected. I phoned the medical aid customer service line and was informed that we were not of a High enough plan to be covered for this medication. I explained that the plan we were on was one of the highest, and that going to the higher option does not justify the cost we will be paying. I then asked the lady: So are you telling me that you would rather pay 100 000's of 1000's of rands in hospital costs than to pay R 60 000.00 for the injections to eliminate/reduce the virus? Her response: Yes, that is what I am saying. I asked our Brokers to help, but the claim was rejected again. This is not just a claim but a motivated situation.
