ATTITUDE OF WILGEHEUVEL OUTPATIENTS

Health & Medicine

On Thursday the 26th December my husband was due to have his stitches out after undergoing an operation to the cuff in his sholder in the Wilgeheuvel Hospital. The surgeon who performed the operation is still on leave as well as our GP. The surgeon told my husband on his last visit to him whilst he was still in hospital " I am going on leave. In 2 weeks time from now the stitches must be taken out. Consult either the Outpatients at this hospital or your GP to have them out ".

On visiting the Outpatients at the Wilgeheuvel Hospital to have the stitches taken out the receptionist said she must first check with the sister on duty. She came back to advise us. "Sorry the sister cannot take the stitches out without a letter from the doctor. All services by the doctor also have to be paid upfront by the patient and then claimed from the medical aid. Normally stitches are taken out free of charge. When asking how much this would be the receptionist advised this varied from R600 to R900. The sister on duty point blank refused to take the stitches out with such an attitude and I refused to pay a doctor for this disgusting service. DON'T EVER GO THERE. YOU WILL BE SORRY.'
