Exchange not working

I received my Xperia Z a week ago and already made my own personal changes on the phone. Downloaded a whole bunch of apps, over a gig (which is not cheap in South Africa).
Then I wanted to get my Outlook mails working on it, guess what it doesn't work. Even after sitting in Vodaworld where no one has a clue what they doing. Sony call centre advised that I have to do a reset.
In doing this, I lost everything that I've done on the phone to date (except for contacts which was backed up) and still nothing is working.
For one the most expensive phones this is! If you are a business man who is depended on a phone, then get a Samsung or Apple, they work.
