Mercedes C180 2008 Timing chain breakdown at 162k

Cars & Transport

My Vehicle went for service on Thursday 7/3 and brokedown on Tuesday 12/3and was towed to the Mercedes workshop and the following letter was sent to me from Trevor Hattingh: after servicing it four years, Vehicle
bought from Mercedes Pinetown

"The above mentioned vehicle is in our workshop for the renewal of the
timing chain and sprockets and possibly the removal of the cylinder head
to renew the valves that are possibly bent.
The technician has to fit the timing chain and sprockets first to
ascertain whether the valve are bent.
I did send a goodwill request on your behalf for any assistance from
Mercedes Benz warranty.
Mercedes Benz has agreed to absorb 50% as a goodwill for the cost of
repairs. (Expires on the 02/04/2013)
The cost of the timing chain repair is 32000.00 rand and should the
valves be bent the cost will be a further 12000.00 rand.
Total 44000.00 less 50% is 22000.00 rand.
A 50% deposit is needed for NMI-DSM Pinetown to commence work on the
vehicle and the rest of the payment on completion."

I have serviced my vehicle with them and at no stage have I been advised of this timing chain breakdown possibility. I just want my vehicle repaired and returned to me.
