Honda Sa
Petrol Tank 30L usable instead of 43L

Cars & Transport

I recently purchased a new Honda Ballade and after filling-up the tank a number of times found that when the reserve light comes on I could still travel around 20 km before it went to zero. However when I filled up I could only put in 30 L. This means the the other 13 odd litres can never be used which means the vehicle has a 30 L tank and not a 43 L tank as advertised. You can therefore only do 300 Km on a tank based on 10 Km/L

I spoke to Honda SA and there comment was that this is correct as the petrol gauge cannot read the last 13 L due to the design of the tank, so live with it.

The other issue I have is the way the software has been written. When you fill-up the new range is calculated based on the L/100 and the full 43 L in the tank. However the trip calculations and range left are then calculated on the 30 L of usable fuel only and not the 43 L. So based on 10 Km/L and a new range of 430 Km when the reserve light comes your range left is 20Km and when you fill-up you have in fact only done 300 Km.

This is to say the least unacceptable and very irritating. Honda should re-look at the way they do the calculations. The trip meter should be based on the 43 L and not 30 L.
