Avis
Suspicous behaviou

Cars & Transport

My wife, who is fairly elderly, picked up a car. The contract on handover claimed minimal damage namely two scratches. To my wife it was clear that the car was badly scratched all round and the dispatcher agreed to add further damages to the top of the contract. This was all very ad hoc. No proper damage form was completed nor signed by my wife.
Some days later Avis informed us that the car had been sold. We were now told that there was further damage to the car for which we would have to pay. Avis stands by its contract that it's the client's responsibility to check the car. I was told that personnel at the airport "were too busy to do a proper check". This by Avis' own management in Cape Town.
Apart from the fact that one expects a perfect car from Avis (there are lots of cheap dented car hire places in Cape Town) if my wife had not picked up the additional damages at the airport we would have had a massive claim. And who hires out a car knowing that it's been sold? All very strange behaviour and quite unacceptable.
We feel that Avis has taken unfair advantage of us.
