How Come They do Not take Debit Cards?

I do not know if it is just me or Engen attendants have a very bad attitude cause this is my second incident with one of their attendants in 2 months. On Fri, 04/10/2013 at around 8:45am I was at the Moteti Engen garage and after filling in petrol worth R300 I gave the attendant my debit card and she told me they do not take debit cards but only take garage cards. I asked her do they have a speed point and she said yes so I asked her how come it takes garage cards but not debit cards? She just kept quiet and looked at me without an explanation. I didn't like the fact that she said nothing cause if she didn't know she should have referred me to someone who does.

I would like an explanation from Engine Petroleum why that particular filling station doesn't take debit cards and if it is true why their attendants do not inform customers beforehand instead of telling us after filling in. I now had to walk to a franchise ATM which charges more interest for a withdrawal instead of using my debit card which is interest free. And also, I should use my garage card when it suits me and not when a petrol attendant wants me to.
