VW not up to standard

My car was in for a service at VW Lindsay Saker Airport recently. The feedback I got was that soon I'll have to replace the clutch. I've noticed a rattling sound coming from the engine even before the service was done, and the technicians couldn't even pick it up and diagnose it. So I took my car to a private company and the technician there had a look and told me that the cam belt, idler and tensioner had to be replaced ASAP. How is it possible that VW technicians cannot do their job properly??? And on top of it, the labour costs are sky high... One would think that the men that help us fix our cars won't allow a woman to drive away unsafe... All they see these days are dollar signs.. What to do??
