Peugeot South Africa
Bought sub standard pre-owned vehicle

Cars & Transport

I have bought a pre-owned car from Peugeot Tygervalley, Durbanville Cape Town. It had 57000 km's on the clock. The salesman assured me that he will check out the vehicle for possible defects as far as possible. I am a women and do not know anything about cars. He assured me over and over that I do not need to worry. The clock is currently on 63500 km's and the clutch gave in - R16 000 later. The bumper to bumper warranty that I took out only covered R5 000 and after negotiaton payed R6500 towards the repairs. I collected my car this afternoon and also received a report with areas that need attention, of which the gear box is one. As I drove out the garage, I realised that my gearbox is not what is was and made a funny noise. I took the vehicle straight back. The mechanic that worked on the car told me that the clutch was totally destroyed and this most probably also affected the gear box. The manager at the pre-owned department simply told me that it is normal wear and tear. If I have to fix the gear box as well, this car would have cost me an additional R30 000. Who in his right mind would buy a vehicle with such low km's to spend R30 000 3 months later.
