Volvo
VOLVO S40 2.0L DIESEL

Cars & Transport

I own a S40, 2.0 L Diesel VOLVO, 2006 model with 89, 000 km and the guarantee expired in Feb 2011.
On 6 January 2012 I tried to start the car, it only cranked 3 times and the engine was dead. Installed a new battery without any success. My car was taken to Hatfield VOLVO on 9 January 2012.
VOLVO uses a diagnostic system which only detects the first fault found and not a holistic approach that looks at the entire system. VOLVO recondition the diesel injector, replaced a control unit and reprogrammed the ignition and replaced the key without success. The BCM braking control unit had to be replaced at R 13, 000 which I declined as replacing the part would not guarantee success.
I requested VOLVO to make me an offer on a new VOLVO without success. I decided to settle the account at R 21, 000 with VOLVO and get a second opinion.
I found my car in appalling condition smeared with oil etc. (photos available) No corrective actions were offered.
I took the car to an independent workshop and got get it fixed at - R 10, 000. The finding was that the electrical problems were caused by bridged wiring that blew units because of overload.
