Today I went to Postnet in Vaalmall to have a passport application sent to the British Consulate in Pretoria. On their display boards, DHL was advertising, send a parcel to the UK for R280, 00 and send documents in Africa for R230, 00. When I was helped, the assistant told me that DHL charges R400, 00 to deliver to the British Passport Section of the British Consulate in Pretoria.
When I queried the price, in relation to the offers on their TV, I was told by the manager that that is what DHL charges as it is inconvenient for them to deliver to the British Consulate as there are lots of problems.
Considering that the Consulate only accepts courier deliveries from certain couriers, I believe that DHL is taking unfair advantage of the situation. If they have to charge such a high fee because of problems they encounter with the British Consulate I would like to know so that I can take this up with the consulate.
