None return of deposit, goods not supplied

Interested to buy car but wanted RWC as engine was full of what could be power steering fluid. Richard the owner insisted I put down R500 deposit as there are 3 other people wanting the car. I stupidly did so and made it clear that purchase was on condition of the RWC result and if all acceptable, that I get the car the next day as I could not wait as I needed to get back to work 1700km from Cape Town. Next day no RWC (public holiday), and no car, but his mechanics said the car is 100% and he offered to deliver the car on a trailer (means the car will be clean undriven when I get it and he knows I am not coming back 1200km if I find a problem). I suspected the car had serious hidden problems and said the deal was off. He refused to return my deposit and told me to leave and I must sue him for the money. If the car was fine then why is he so desperate for R500 if he had so many other buyers lined up? Probably that is how he makes his money by?!?! He can have it, won't get him fa
