Wrong information on credit report

I paid an account that was in arreas and now its been more than 7 months and whenever I apply for credit I am told that I still have an account that is in arrears. I do not have an account that is in arreas, why is it so difficult for transunion to just do their job? I have a letter confirming that the account was settled in full but still my credit record has not been updated. The transunion call center is also not helping, I have been calling and holding for very long periods and eventually gave up. I have sent emails, I have challenged the report on their website which promises to be in contact within 24hours but its been many days now without being contacted. This is making my life very difficult and its pathetic.
