"YOU OWE US" 10 YEARS LATER

I applied for a business credit card with std bank in 2005, the account was settled and closed. I received acknowledgement of the above from std bank. Late last year I got calls from debt collectors advising me i have an outstanding account with std bank for a credit card. I faxed the relevant letter confirming the settlement of the credit card but kept getting calls and sent the letter to confirm the credit card account was settled. Recently i was advised this was a personal credit card I had with std bank in 2003. I advised the caller i didnt have a personal credit card with std bank and why would they contact me after 10yrs. I was advised there was a R4000.00 payment made last year hence the calls. I enquired who, where and when was the payment made as I didnt. Confirmation to date not received. Ophelia Percent has sent me "proof" of the app even though it doesnt look like my signature but still no proof of a payment. In the interim Std bank has now loaded this credit card on my account without consulting me or resolving my enquiry. Is this even legal after 10yrs why was i never contacted prior to date and who pd R4000? If the limit is R6000 how can I pay R4000 and bal is R9500?
