8 -10 WEEKS TO CLEAR A CHEQUE???

Received a cheque from UK in Pounds Sterling so tried to put it into my FNB account. After waiting 30 mins in a queue told by the bank it could not process it so had to go to another Centurion branch. After getting wrong directions from bank employees and visiting another 3 branches of FNB eventually got someone to help. Duly filled in all the forms and on completion then told the decision on further processing would be at the discretion of the Manager?? Two options available - clear now - would take 4 days or check with UK - which would take 8-10 WEEKS!!! Your right - the decision was to check with UK. I queried this but not a clear explanation received so I asked why 8 - 10 weeks - told "Policies and Procedures". All the contact details and information were available in writing on the cheque so asked them to phone the sender and ask whatever question were necessary for clearance. Said they couldn't had to follow "Policies and Procedures". In this technological age of computers/cell phones etc it will take FNB 8 - 10 weeks to get information from UK to process a paltry low value cheque. Hope in 8 - 10 weeks the 1.00 Pound == R25.00.
