Student Loan interest suddenly excessive at 18.5%

Imagine my surprise when I checked the student loan taken for my husband last year to discover that we are being charged 18.5% as of 01 Aug. My interest went from R800 odd to R1200. No notice! Nothing.
Oh, there was an sms to tell me to send proof of registration. Umm, I have phoned three times to tell them that the student was finished and we wanted to make capital payments. NO JOY! So we made up the difference.

How on earth do I qualify for a loan at 18.5 %? My husband just got approval for the entire loan amount at FNB on his name for 13.5 % and yet, in FNB's wisdom, I am worth 18.5%???
Disgusted and infuriated.
I have an unblemished credit record having paid off everything I have ever owned and this is how I get treated?
I will keep my banking with Standard Bank thanks, where I don't pay ridiculous interest rates and where they actually want my interest and business.
