Closing Account

I have a cheque account with Absa now for more than 10 years. I am currently unemployed (try starting my own business) and my cheque account were overdrawn. I went to the branch to close my account after I've paid an amount of R5000, 00- firstly I had to sit in the reception area and then the receptionist brought me a piece of paper saying that I need to pay R1800 at the teller then I can close my account. I wasn't even taken to a consultant to explain what the amount is for. This morning an admin fee of R828.00 were deducted from account. Which bank charge over R800 for admin on a cheque account? Last month it was more than R1000.00 admin fee. Isn't the bank suppose to help you especially if you don't have an income.
