Discovery Card
Don't rely on your credit card

I have been a good customer with Discovery for the past year now, always up to date with my payments and paying it off before time. I closed all my other credit cards and use only one at the moment Discovery. I have been reaping all the rewards like discounts on fuel, cash back, discounts on food and clothing etc. and even earning miles to spend. But this weekend I learned the hard way! I had made plans to take my wife and the kids out on a special weekend since it was "Mothers Day" but it all blew through the roof. I had R35000 credit available on my card and planned to go away for the weekend and pamper my wife with gifts and meals. After having waffles at Ushaka I got a call from Discovery asking me if I was in Paris as a sale of R43000 had been declined on my card. He further went on to say that for security purposes he had to close my account. So now I am pennyless for the weekend. What if this happens far away from home/overseas, how do you pay for petrol, tolls etc to get back? This can happen anytime and anywhere as credit card is rife. Is it fair to pay huge interest and card fees for a service you no longer can use?
