CAUGHT IN A GYM CONTRACT AND GET BULLIED TO PAY!

In 2007 I signed up for a 3 year gym membership at the Health and Racquet Club at the Northcliff Corner Shopping Center. the 2 years later I moved from Northcliff to Ferndale in Randburg and going to this gym was way out. I still honoured my contract and paid the remaining months. After the 3 years was up I didn't worry to go back and confirm if the contract had actually ended. After a few months I noticed that they were still deducting the monthly fees. When I queried with them they told me that because I didn't come in and cancell the contract they have automatically extended it for another three years. So I had to pay R250 for 3 years even though I was not using their Facilities. They refused bluntly to even hear my story and insisted I must pay. Felt bullied, my mistake was that I was to busy to take them on at that time and just left and paid. But now they have handed me over to their Lawyers for unpaid fees. At the end of the day to me it is the principle that counts and the way in each they trap their clients into paying for longer periods even though we not using their facilities. I just feel that this is very unethical and people should watch out for these kind of GYMS!
