R350 charge for no work

I requested someone to come out and give me a quotation for a new pump as our pool pump had been hit by lightning. The gentlemen at the store informed me that they charge a R350 call out fee. There was no further explanation given. As I am aware, a call out fee generally includes at least the first half an hours work that is done on the item requiring repairs. I had to pay this amount upfront. I did so. A gentleman came to my property, literally lifted my pumps lid, closed it and left. I had paid R350 for this.
When I queried it, the guy at Sunninghill Branch told me that this is the norm and that they charged this exhorbitant amount to just come out and give a quote. I asked if this amount will be deducted if I accept the quote and was told no as that is not the way they work. I was shocked at this daylight. I then phoned the Head Office and was told the same thing, however that the owner would look into it and call me back. That has never happened. I am now R350 out of pocket with no quotation and still have a green pool. I am disgusted that this is the way suppliers operate these days. I will not recommend anyone to make use of their services.
