Rip off - how many innocent people end up paying?

Asked to pay R21 000 to repair a gearbox. Took car for second opinion, nothing wrong with gearbox just the selector cable. Cost of repair R 3 500.

Imagine how many honest, hard working people they are doing this to. This behavior cannot be tolerated!!

This is what happened

1. Car difficult to get into reverse

2. Booked car in

3. Was notified that gearbox required total overhaul at a cost of R21 000

4. Decided to get a second opinion.

Citroen said I would have to pay a diagnostic fee of R 650. I was happy to pay the diagnostic fee but wanted a report by a qualified person. This is what I was presented with:

- Renew gearbox bearings NOISY, clutch kit if necessary, gearbox oils and consumables

No mention of the problem engaging reverse.

5. Took car to a gearbox expert in Strydom Park. They put car on a lift and immediately noticed that the gear select cable was not properly attached to the gearbox and therefore slipping and making gear selection difficult.

6. Could have been fixed for R500 but I decided we would replace gear select cable. Cost R 3 500.
