I received a call from someone claiming it was a capitec consultant and I needed to update my details.
The call sounded legit since he knew my: name, surname, ID number, cell number, adres, Account number as well as transactions on my account. They knew things only my bank should know. After explaining how cell phone banking worked he asks me for my pin. I told him that I'm not giving my pin and hanged up. I went to a Capitec Branch and explained what happened. The manager reassured me that they won't be able to withdraw my funds since I didn't give them my pin. I called the customer service from Capitec branch, explained to them what happened. Neither the call centre nor the manager advised me to withdraw my money, nor did they offer to freeze my money just to be safe. Later I noticed that my cell phone was not working. The next day I when to MTN and they told me a sim swap was done on my phone. I rushed back to Capitec bank just to find that my money was withdrawn.
Capitec claims since I am the only one that knows my pin, I must have given the to them. I know for a fact that I did not give it.
