I had to urgently attend a meeting in Durban and booked my flight late on a Thursday afternoon for the next morning. I wanted to fly from Lanseria but all flights were sold out so I had no option but to go via OR Tambo. In making my booking I realised that the cost was extremely high but put it down to booking late. I was in a hurry, under pressure so did not check the details of my flight.
On arriving at the check-in at OR Tambo I requested an isle seat only to be told that "you have been allocated seat 1A. I thought it strange but accepted the seat as I usually try and sit as far forward as possible. On take off I was served breakfast and then realised that I had been given a "business class" seat.
I would never book a business class seat on any local flight especially one to Durban which takes about an hour.
On complaining I was told that the "system" automatically allocates the next cheapest seat WITHOUT giving the customer the option to accept or reject. I would have chosen an alternative flight had I been given the option.
All I got was an apology... after seven days!!! This to me is unacceptable.
