During last week I received a verbal quote from the call centre (no I did not get the agents name but spoke to the same woman about 4 times). I asked for a price for a taxi from Pine Slopes centre in Fourways to Mulbarton and the Brackendowns in Alberton. I was told it would cost aprox. R400. Orange cabs then changed their quote from R400 to R600 so called Zebra cabs back to confirm. I also mentioned that it would be between 12:00 am and 03:00 am Sunday morning. Again I was told that it's aprox. R400 but definitely not more than R500 and that a booking was not necessary. Last night I called again to ask for a pick up and the agent was a little off putting with her admonitions about not booking and how they were busy. When we got home our meter was on R718. A lot more than we budgeted for and waaay more than the aprox. R400 I was quoted which is very disappointing. I also have to mention that people pay a fortune for taxis so they can get home safe and as friendly as the driver was he answered his phone numerous times while driving us without a hands free kit which is not only illegal but also dangerous and as good as driving drunk. My trust has been broken...
