This is a copy of an email I sent to the senior manager of Shosoloza Meyl shortly after experiencing a delay of almost 13 Hours on their service from Johannesburg and PE on 31 May 2013. To date I have not received any response:
"As you are aware, the scheduled Shosoloza Meyl train from Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth due to arrive at 09:15 on Saturday 01 June 2013 was delayed by over 12 hours and only arrived at midnight on 01 June 2013!
To add insult to injury, one of your train "managers" told us at 05:00 that a spare locomotive was being sent from Bloemfontein and would arrive "in 20 minutes" to take us back to where buses will be waiting to transfer us to PE, adding that we shouldn't accept this but in any event he would not be there. Now when I spoke to you, you stated that another locomotive would be coming from Springfontein to take us to Bloemfontein but what actually happened was that at 09:30, a locomotive coupled and took us back to Bloemfontein. My complaint is not the fact that we arrived in PE at midnight but rather that it took 11 hours for a locomotive to arrive to pull us back to Bloemfontein with no-one, including you able to give us any sort of explanation."
