Transfer contract to prepaid

Had 2 year mobile contract with 8ta starting November 2010 and expires 22 November 2012. I had to give them termination notice a month in advance. I gave notice via email to terminate contract on the 18th of October 2012. I requested that they place my number on prepaid. They told me via email that the number will be prepaid on the 1st of January 2013. Nothing happened. I went to Telkom direct at N1 city Cape Town. They said they can do nothing I will get a call from 8ta headquarters. Well I phoned them numerous times but they are not helpful. I cannot buy any data bundle. I told them I have problems with internet access. They still did not come back to me. Please help.
