I recently ported from MTN to Telkom Mobile with the promise of unlimited calls, unlimited data, unlimited sms, this couldn't be further from the truth!
My MTN contract expired this month, so, with the promise of unlimited usage I decided to port to Telkom Mobile. Brian at the Sandton Telkom Mobile shop signed me up as a client, he never shared the terms and conditions of the unlimited package or explained to me which numbers cannot be dialled when signing up for this contract.
My surprise came when I could not contact my insurance broker the week after my number was ported, the error message came up as "you have insufficient airtime". I called the Telkom Mobile Call Centre to clear up the misunderstanding right? Wrong. It so happens that my contract does not ALLOW me to call the following number ranges:
- 110 Telkom Mobile directory enquiries
- All 0861 numbers
- All 0860 numbers
- All 0800 numbers
- 1023 directory enquiries
- All 087 numbers
The conclusion is I cannot call the following:
- my bank
- my medical aid
- my armed response company
- Telkom Mobile's own directory enquiries
This is completely unacceptable and I will tell anyone who is happy to listen
