BAD COMMUNICATION

I cancelled my contract with Virgin and was told that all remaining airtime and sms's would move over to prepaid.
HOWEVER, IT WAS NOT MENTIONED THAT IF I PORT THE NUMBER I WOULD LOSE THE ABOVE!!!
As lay people with regards these matters we need to be informed about such matters. After paying for a contract of 24months plus a further year!!! I have now lost something like R200 airtime (maybe more) and 997 sms's.
Had I known about the above, I would have requested from the new service provider to hold off with the porting of the number.
I DO THINK THERE SHOULD BE A MEANS BY WHICH I SHOULD BE COMPENSATED FOR NOT BEING INFORMED CORRECTLY.
