24 hours for sim swap!!

I bought a samsung S4 yesterday and so needed to get a micro sim i went to vodacom, got the micro sim and did the sim swap. i was told that it would be active after 3 hours, that time passed i switched on my phone and the only things i could do was receive phone calls and texts and it has been that way till now. It is now almost 24 hours and i cant load airtime as i get a message saying my number is invalid. i am now stuck with a useless phone because i cant purchase data or airtime. This is absolutely ridiculous, the call centre agents are also rude and not helpful they keep telling me to switch my phone off for 5 minutes i've done that a million times but nothing has changed.
