Vodacom refuses to repair phone

We have been to vodacom 3 times.
The first time they could not book the phone in without the battery, which is a littlie weird since we have booked in phones on two other occations without the battery, but not a big problem. We went back about two days later with the battery and they told us the phone is not under warrenty anymore
We got the phone on an upgrade in Januarie of this year???
So we went back a third time with the slip from vodacom clearly stating the IMEI number and the purchase date. They then booked it in (rather rude). A few days later we were contacted by the repairs department saying that it is not under warrenty according to their system and that we should supply a slip, which was done at the vodacare???

How can it not be under warrenty if it is not even a year old, with no physical damage?
