Upgrade turned into a disaste

I upgraded my contract and received a Samsung Galaxy S3 mini with a new sim card on the 8th of October 2013. was told not to use my new sim till the 27th of October when the new contract will commence. So i've had the phone in the box till then. On the 27th of October 2013 I called customer care to do a sim swap on the new sim. Was told not to insert the new sim until the old one stops working. After about 4 hours the old sim stopped working but the new one did not work either. I called customer care and was told that it has been reported and I would be contacted about the outcome. No one contacted me so I called again on the 29th of October 2013 and was told to give it 48hrs to work. I called again on the 31st of October and was told they offline they will call me back on my alternative number. And it's hours later and no one has called. I've had a phone for over a month that I cant use, no one can get a hold of me, I'm losing out on a lot of personal and professional things. And spending alot of time and money calling the customer care since no one is giving me any feedback.
