Paying for a 24 month service beyond 24 months!!!

In Jan/Feb this year my fianc? Jasen Greening went into Meyerton MTN and asked when the contract would expire for 2 HTC handsets that were purchased some time ago. He was told that it would expire at the end of June 2013. As he is based on a petroleum plant and cannot receive or make calls during the day, he presumed that this debit order would fall away end June 2013. The debit order, however, has continued and he asked me to contact MTN today to find out why he was still being charged. When I got through to the lady at the Contracts Section of MTN, she told me that there was a clause in the contract stating that you would need to notify MTN of cancellation hereof. Who has ever continue paying for a service which was a 24 month contract??? How is that possible and according to the SA law, you cannot continue with a renewal without confirming this with the client. We would like this contract cancelled with immediate effect and the monies that have been paid since the end of June, to be paid back to Mr Greening. You cannot have a contract stipulating 24 months and then continue thereafter... it is like buying a fridge on hire purchase, paying it off and continue paying!!!
