Contract migration

I am currently on the Anytime 200. I purchased a Blackberry Z10 and have noticed much higher data usage. I therefore want to migrate to a higher package (Anytime 350) immediately. But I am now being told that I need to wait till my current contract expires (in a year's time) because it was a promo package. I am not prepared to wait that long and incur all the higher charges. I would understand the issue if I was downgrading my contract but I am actually upgrading to a higher contract so what is the problem? MTN would benefit from this.
